apple On Tuesday it announced a new home hub called HomeView.
Apple says the device, which has a 7-inch screen, is designed to be mounted on a wall or placed on a table. Designed for multiple people in a household, it recognizes your face and displays relevant information. Prices start at $299 and will ship on November 13th.
Tuesday’s announcement event was the second under new CEO John Ternas, who took over from Tim Cook in September. Last month, Apple announced a new model of its most important product, the iPhone. That includes a foldable model called Duo that sells for nearly $2,000.
Apple also announced new Apple TV and HomePod hardware on Tuesday. The new Apple TV 4K costs $299 and features a redesigned remote that lets you play audio even if you lose it. Apple’s HomePod Mini speaker is now available in new colors and priced at $149, a slight increase from its previous price of $129.
While the products announced Tuesday aren’t as important for Apple as the iPhone, and investors continue to focus on iPhone sales, Tuesday’s accessories were positioned as a showcase for the company’s new Siri feature released last month.
Apple said HomeView is equipped with Siri AI that can answer a wide range of questions. Users can now talk to Siri, and the conversation continues on their iPhone or iPad. It has a built-in speaker for music playback.
Apple’s HomeView can be placed on a table or mounted on a wall.

“It recognizes your face to move you from your home screen into your own experience, filling your room with incredible sound, staying connected to the people who matter most with FaceTime, and making it easier to control your smart home,” Greg Jozwiak, Apple’s chief marketer, said in a statement.
According to Apple, HomeView uses Apple Intelligence to display information from the Messages, Photos, Calendar, and Reminders apps based on who’s using the device. It can also be used for FaceTime calls and as a digital photo frame. It is equipped with Apple A18 chip. Supports up to 6 users.
Apple TV, HomePods and HomeView are part of Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories category, which reported sales of $7.88 billion in the most recent quarter ending in June, about 7% of the company’s total revenue. This category also includes wireless headphones such as AirPods and Apple Watch.
But while Apple has dabbled in consumer products and platforms in the past, Tuesday’s announcement signals that Apple is making consumer products a higher priority under Ternus.

Apple announced Tuesday that its new products, including HomeView, can be used as smart home hubs to coordinate notifications and actions around the home and work with a variety of products, including new locks, doorbells and cameras from LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
Apple’s smart home integration not only helps with sales, but also helps lock customers further into its ecosystem. People who use multiple Apple products and connections are less likely to switch to an Android smartphone.
Apple says HomeView can also be used as a smart home dashboard. You can use it to view camera footage, adjust your thermostat, and lock connected doors around your home.
Apple said setting up new smart home devices can be completed with one tap from a user’s iPhone.

Tuesday’s announcement shows Apple’s confidence in announcing new product categories. But the broader consumer electronics industry has been grappling with rising prices and deteriorating demand related to memory and storage component shortages. This also comes as new president Ternas reportedly urged the company to speed up product releases.
Apple’s new Apple TV 4K has increased in price from $199 to $299, following a similar price increase earlier this year after Cook said Apple’s memory costs were unsustainable.
