Nvidia is increasing its investment in Europe’s artificial intelligence sector, revealing plans to support four German startups as the country strengthens its position in industrial AI.
The investment is part of about $10 billion in investments by the U.S. chipmaker in companies, universities and research institutes across Europe, announced at the German Investment Summit in Berlin on Monday.
The four startups are Agile Robots, Avelios Medical, Mirelo, and Reflex Aerospace. However, NVIDIA did not disclose the planned investment size.
Agile Robots develops AI-powered robots for manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare, and Avelios Medical builds AI-powered hospital management software. Mirelo develops AI models that generate audio for videos, and Reflex Aerospace designs and builds satellites.
The announcement comes as Germany aims to accelerate the adoption of AI across its industrial sectors, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz saying the country aims to be a leader in integrating AI into key sectors.
Merz said the technology represents a huge opportunity for the country’s economy, citing manufacturing, machinery and the automotive industry as areas where AI will be integrated. He also urged small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany to take advantage of the data they already have.
“Open the door for AI to use your data,” Mertz said. “This is the real secret and the real advantage that Germany can take advantage of all the data that is already available within the company.”
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang echoed Merz’s remarks, highlighting Germany’s expertise in manufacturing, mathematics and science, and saying AI will enhance rather than replace the country’s industrial capabilities.
“AI only augments capabilities, not replaces them,” Huang said, describing the technology as a new way to do business.
Nvidia is also expanding its collaboration with the German federal government and its Industry 4.0 Platform, bringing together representatives from government, industry, research, and trade associations to accelerate the adoption of industrial AI. On Monday, the government signed a joint declaration of intent with Nvidia to advance AI models for industrial applications.
Earlier in the day, siemens We also announced new AI solutions developed jointly with Nvidia at our Erlangen, Germany, factory. Siemens said the technology could reduce engineering work involved in production preparation by up to 85%, and AI-powered production planning could reduce costs by up to 20%.
Fan also visited France last week, where he announced investments in four French startups and met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss AI development. Nvidia’s president is scheduled to give a keynote speech in Berlin on Wednesday.
