TNT Sports Chairman and CEO Louis Silberwasser will retire from the soon-to-be-merged Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to people familiar with the matter.

Silberwasser broke the news to his team via email on Monday, said the people, who requested anonymity because the communication was private.

“I am writing to inform you that I will be leaving the company as TNT Sports and CBS Sports are combined under new leadership following the completion of the Paramount and WBD merger,” Silberwasser said in a memo obtained by CNBC.

David Berson, president and chief executive officer of CBS Sports, will lead a newly formed global sports group overseeing all networks, platforms and territories. CBS Sports, TNT Sports and WBD Sports brands will join the new group.

Sources said Skydance plans to make a formal announcement regarding Burson’s transfer soon. A CBS spokesperson declined to comment.

The combined company, which announced last week that it will be renamed Skydance, will own a wide range of sports rights, including Sunday afternoon NFL games, all March Madness games, college football, the NHL, MLB, the Masters and more.

The merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery is scheduled to close tomorrow, October 6th.

Silberwasser joined TNT Sports from Univision in 2022. Warner Bros. Discovery will lose live NBA rights in 2025, ending a 40-year relationship with the league.

Still, Silberwasser signed a new multi-year deal to sublicense College Football Playoff games and broadcast events such as All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the French Open and NASCAR races. That allowed Warner Bros. Discovery to strike distribution deals with pay-TV providers and maintain distribution fees without the NBA.

Berson must now look at his entire portfolio and decide which sports are worth keeping and which he can let go as Skydance looks to pay down nearly $80 billion in debt over the next few years.
