How much will domestic flights cost this fall? It depends on where and when you fly.
This year’s Thanksgiving fares are more than 30% higher than last year, as airlines pass on this year’s soaring jet fuel prices to customers, according to a tally of “good value” fares by flight tracking site Hopper. However, while there are some great deals on certain routes outside of that period, others are very expensive.
November’s cheapest flights include routes between Atlanta, the world’s busiest airport, and various cities in the Midwest and Southeast. Other short trips include flights within the Big Island of Hawaii and within Florida.
But flight length isn’t the only thing that determines price. The route from Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard off Cape Cod, Massachusetts to New York and Washington, DC, is one of the most expensive.
The most expensive flights are for trips from remote parts of Alaska to the East Coast. Although it is an oil-producing state, it imports large amounts of jet fuel and other refined products.
