disney On Wednesday, streaming service Disney+ announced that the next Super Bowl will be broadcast in February.
The 2027 Championship Game and the two Monday Night Football games leading up to the Super Bowl will be available to all Disney+ subscribers in the United States.
Disney previously announced that its ESPN sports division would produce the Super Bowl for the first time ever in 2027. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and Disney’s broadcast network ABC.
Interest in the upcoming Super Bowl is already growing. Disney said in its latest earnings report that advertising space for the game has already sold out, making it the fastest sell-out in Super Bowl history, according to a press release.
The announcement is the latest move in Disney’s efforts to expand its live sports streaming services. The media company launched a standalone ESPN streaming service last year to offer content outside of cable bundles.
Disney announced in August that Formula E, the electric car open-wheel racing championship, would be available to Disney+ subscribers starting December 18th.
Other streamers are also using live sports to enhance their portfolios. CNBC reported last week. of the alphabet YouTube is actively seeking additional live sports rights. YouTube already pays about $2 billion a year for the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, which runs through the end of the 2029-30 season.
Netflix plans to broadcast five NFL games during the 2026-27 season. Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in an interview with CNBC last month that the company is open to acquiring the rights to international NFL games if they become available.
