The ChatGPT desktop app can be a confusing piece of software because it has a ChatGPT section and a Codex section, with the former having a (Chat) tab and a (Work) tab. With too many options, it’s easy to forget where you’re working and where exactly your project is.
According to an email sent to users, OpenAI is currently preparing to unify the (Chat) and (Work) tabs within the ChatGPT experience in an apparent effort to address this. OpenAI said the experience will initially be made available to selected users for feedback before being rolled out broadly.
“Now you can go from thinking of an idea to running it with ChatGPT, all in one place. You can bring in files and plugins and have ChatGPT build your website, create a presentation, or work on the web while you review and guide your work. Codex will remain a separate experience within the ChatGPT desktop app,” the email states.
OpenAI also stated that this transition will result in both ChatGPT and Codex drawing their tokens from the same allowance spool. This change will not affect most users, but depending on usage and model, some may need to wait for more frequent resets.
Rival Anthropic combined Claude’s chat and Cowork features into one screen in September.
