President Donald Trump took aim at Fox News in a series of posts on Truth Social on Tuesday night as Democrats cruised to historic midterm election victories.
President Trump blamed the network, which he has long championed, for the Republican Party’s losses, saying in a post on his social media network that “the Republican Party is responsible for these losses by consistently pushing the Republican opposition.”
Democrats took control of both the House and Senate, flipping seats in states that typically favor Republicans, such as Texas, South Carolina, and Kansas.
President Trump also pointed to FOX’s recent ratings as evidence of the station’s decline.
“The reason Fox News’ ratings are down so much (27%!) is because they spend too much time reporting on Trump’s crazy Democrats! Everyone who used to watch Fox and doesn’t anymore understands that. It’s them, not me,” he posted.
FOX News did not respond to a request for comment.
Fox News reported in a press release last week that it averaged 1.1 million viewers in October, down about 27% from the same month last year.
fox company Chief executive Lachlan Murdoch blamed the drop in performance on “viewer fatigue” during the company’s quarterly results conference on Monday.
But Murdoch said such changes are expected in the run-up to the midterm elections, when a second-term president is inaugurated, and are not the result of viewers turning to coverage of competitors.
“These viewers don’t go to other news channels. They don’t switch to MS NOW or CNN,” he said. “They’re just tired and watching a little less TV overall.”
VersantOwned by MS NOW and sky danceBoth CNN affiliates reported double-digit increases in prime-time viewership in October compared to the same period last year. However, both networks still averaged fewer total daily viewers than Fox News.
MS NOW averaged 588,000 all-day viewers in October, compared to CNN’s 402,000 viewers, according to Nielsen data cited by Fox.
Despite Fox News’ viewership decline year-over-year, the company reported an otherwise strong quarter that Murdoch called “a great start to fiscal 2027.”
Fox, which includes terrestrial television networks, entertainment and sports properties and streaming businesses, reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $4.57 billion, up 22% from a year earlier.
The company noted a 47% increase in ad revenue, helped by strong political advertising and the FIFA Men’s World Cup, which was partially broadcast on Fox platforms from June to July.
Trump has frequently criticized media companies, especially broadcasters, which he believes are biased against him. Although he has targeted NBC many times, disneyThe president has had a more friendly relationship with Fox and its networks compared to ABC, which is owned by ABC.
Trump appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” Monday night ahead of the election.
